Offline Electronic Library

We have a new and unique product in store. Since electronic equipment is vastly becoming common and an everyday mode of communication, access to information has now moved into focus in order to achieve one of the CBM’s main objectives in literacy and education. The product mentioned above’ Offline Electronic Library’ is accessed only through pre-loaded Android Tablet PCs and Laptops. These are the two new devices in store; 1. Android Tablet PC (Huawei 7 inch) selling at K800 2. Laptop ( Lenovo Idea pad 100s 11.6 inch) selling at K1600 These two devices make learning easy and information available at your fingertips. This product is designed to help students especially in rural PNG to access basic information on commonly known subjects widely taught throughout schools in the country. The data is accessible through offline research applications and software. The good news is no internet is required to access the information. Order online or buy in store!

Kessie Sabuima - a lifetime of service and faith

At CBM we are saddened by the death of our colleague Kessie Sabuima. Kessie has worked with Christian Books Melanesia Inc for 33 years. He began work as a young man in 1983 working in the Mt Hagen Christian Bookshop. He worked with Gordon Cowell and Myra Parker who became close friends. They along with many missionaries who got to know and appreciate Kessie are shocked to hear of his passing. In 1988 he went to GLO Bible College in Smithton Tasmania. Later he went to work in CBM Head office in Wewak but he finished his service managing the Christian Bookshop at Alotau. He leaves behind Eileen and his 3 boys who will miss him dearly. Through the years he has made many friends who loved and respected him and who will miss his cheering smile. Kessie died suddenly the result of a stoke on Sunday afternoon at Alotau. Our hearts reach out to Kessie's family at this time. PRAY FOR KESSIE'S FAMILY AND FRIENDS AT THE HAUS KRAI IN ALOTAU.

BILUM BOOKS - Literacy is Key

Bilum Books in Kiunga! On Thursday 21 April 2016, new schoolbooks will be launched in Kiunga. Why Kiunga? “We’re launching in Kiunga to show we are serious about reaching out to teachers and students in remote and rural areas, not just in the big cities and towns,” according to Ray O’Farrell, Publisher at Bilum Books. The launch is being organized by Cross-Country School of Excellence and Western Education Books & Stationery (WEBS) based in Kiunga. Bilum Books is a new business. Its mission is to help raise the standards of literacy in PNG. Literacy levels in PNG are 57%, the lowest in the Pacific. There are many reasons why: the ruggedness of PNG, a developing economy, a huge population and its widespread distribution over the Highlands, lowlands and islands. These are just some of the factors that make it difficult to deliver high quality services in education. But PNG can do better than 57%. We know schoolchildren in PNG are just as smart as children anywhere. Why can’t they be taught to read well and write well? Ray O’Farrell believes they can “If we give teachers the right training and the right tools”. He believes that Bilum Books are the tools that teachers need to teach literacy and to help students reach a new standard. Bilum Books’ mission is to support the Standards-Based Curriculum, to produce good books, to train teachers and help them implement the new curriculum. “We want students reach the new standards being set by the Department of Education.” 25 new books will be launched on Thursday. They have been over two years in development. Consultation has taken place at every step, with curriculum officers in Port Moresby and practicing classroom teachers around the country - and PNG artists have drawn the illustrations. The launch in Kiunga will also be accompanied by two days of free workshops for teachers in the Kiunga area. Why “Bilum Books”? - Our name Bilums are uniquely and proudly PNG. Bilums are strong and useful, they connect us. Bilums share our culture and traditions. Bilums carry hope for the future – our babies, our food, our belongings. Bilum Books will help to educate our young people and raise the standards of literacy and learning in Papua New Guinea. Bilum Books, like bilums, carry hope for the future. Bilum Books, our books.

Book of the Month - SHORTS

CBM Book of the Month- June 2026

We call these articles “shorts” because each of them are too small (too short) to be made into

a book by themselves. However, together they make quite an interesting book.


This book starts out with a friendly voice from Manus Province. What Samuel has done is he

has taken some important but difficult ideas – Sin, Flesh, and the Holy Spirit – and he has

explained them in his own, easy-to-follow words. You’ve done a great job of it, Samuel!

The second “short” is written by a UPNG student. Micah uses excellent English, and a

beautiful choice of words to state the most important message on earth. He includes his study

of science as proof of The Gospel Message.


The third “short” comes from a nursing student. Rebecca also includes the truths she is learning

at school as part of her description of Incredible God.

The fourth “short” is an exciting, fictional story that presents a touching and powerful message.

Seik received help from his own young children in putting together the story of A Destiny

Changed by Love.


The fifth “short” talks about another subject that is important for us all. Mapa has outlined the

subject of The Adoption as Sons and gives a clear and meaningful explanation that should be

an encouragement to every follower of Jesus. God has taken us into His family and forever

loves us as His child.


The sixth “short” provides a fitting end to this book. Pastor Wasu tells us that because of who

God is and what he has done for us, we are all called to actively participate in The Ministry

of Caring. If we truly learn to receive God’s personal love for us, we will naturally start to care

for all the other people God loves. If/when we do this, we can change the world.
